You Cannot #DIY

"It's not the load that weighs you down, it's the way you carry it." - C.S. Lewis

#DIY. My guess is that you have seen these three letters while you are pinning something to a Pinterest board, watching the 30 second Tasty cooking video on Facebook, or even reading a blog post like https://triedandtruthblog.wordpress.com/. DIY represents the popular phrase, DO IT YOURSELF.

I'll be the first to admit, the thought of completing a #DIY project always intrigues me, whether it be woodworking, or baking, count me in. These projects seem to be a fad within our generation and now even the older generations are starting to appreciate the idea.

For those of you who have tried these type of projects on your own, I bet most would admit that you start the project and before long, you feel way in over your head. At times, the supplies and pieces surrounding you seem to act as a reminder that you will need help. And while it is possible to complete one of these crafts or adventures by yourself, I am here to tell you that you cannot go through life by doing it yourself.

Do you ever wonder why we seem to be a people that always chases "highs?" I know my tendency is to leap frog from one adrenaline rush to the next. Yet, after I complete something, I want to move on to the next big thing. To be completely honest, it will leave you feeling absolutely drained.

I quote C.S. Lewis a lot, and I will not apologize for it, because he was an extremely wise individual. Read the quote below and really reflect on it.

The fact that our heart yearns for something Earth can’t supply is proof that Heaven must be our home.
— C.S. Lewis

Often times we approach life's problems with the mindset of solving it on our own. However, it doesn't take long until we find ourselves in a deep, dark hole filled with loneliness and exhaustion. Speaking for myself, when I sin and mess up, I try my best to clean up the mess that I made... the mess I got myself into. Guess what though? That is the opposite of what God desires of me as His son. It will forever baffle me, but get this...

HE WANTS ME TO COME JUST AS I AM.

broken.

shattered.

filthy.

bruised.

scarred.

At the end of a #DIY project there is a 100% guarantee things will get messy. There will be paint all over you, baking soda on the countertops, and pieces of straw hay you aren't even sure where it came from. If you do not get anything else out of this blog post, get this.

The messiness makes the masterpiece.

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
— Ephesians 2:10

I am broken. I have been shattered at times. I sin and feel filthy. I have bruises. Some decisions have left me with scars.

I am loved by the Creator.

My Savior has scars too. Why? Because He took my place. One day I will pass away and have a perfect body. Has it ever dawned on you that once the believers are all in heaven, Jesus will be the only one who has scars. He took my place, He took your place. He took me just as I am, and He desired to save you just as you are. There is no better day than today to simply say, "God, I can no longer do it myself."
